I'm trying to use Logstash with a log4j file in a Windows 7 32-bit VM, and I'm getting this error and I'm not sure what it means:

C:\Users\IEUser\Downloads\logstash-2.4.0\logstash-2.4.0\bin>logstash.bat agent -f logstash.conf  {:timestamp=>"2016-09-19T08:34:59.300000-0700", :message=>"Pipeline aborted due to error", :exception=>"ArgumentError", :backtrace=>["C:/Users/IEUser/Downloads/logstash-2.4.0/logstash-2.4.0/vendor/bundle/jruby/1.9/gems/logstash-input-file-2.2.5/lib/logstash/inputs/file.rb:187:in `register'", "org/jruby/RubyArray.java:1613:in `each'", "C:/Users/IEUser/Downloads/logstash-2.4.0/logstash-2.4.0/vendor/bundle/jruby/1.9/gems/logstash-input-file-2.2.5/lib/logstash/inputs/file.rb:185:in `register'", "C:/Users/IEUser/Downloads/logstash-2.4.0/logstash-2.4.0/vendor/bundle/jruby/1.9/gems/logstash-core-2.4.0-java/lib/logstash/pipeline.rb:330:in `start_inputs'", "org/jruby/RubyArray.java:1613:in `each'", "C:/Users/IEUser/Downloads/logstash-2.4.0/logstash-2.4.0/vendor/bundle/jruby/1.9/gems/logstash-core-2.4.0-java/lib/logstash/pipeline.rb:329:in `start_inputs'", "C:/Users/IEUser/Downloads/logstash-2.4.0/logstash-2.4.0/vendor/bundle/jruby/1.9/gems/logstash-core-2.4.0-java/lib/logstash/pipeline.rb:180:in `start_workers'", "C:/Users/IEUser/Downloads/logstash-2.4.0/logstash-2.4.0/vendor/bundle/jruby/1.9/gems/logstash-core-2.4.0-java/lib/logstash/pipeline.rb:136:in `run'", "C:/Users/IEUser/Downloads/logstash-2.4.0/logstash-2.4.0/vendor/bundle/jruby/1.9/gems/logstash-core-2.4.0-java/lib/logstash/agent.rb:491:in `start_pipeline'"], :level=>:error} {:timestamp=>"2016-09-19T08:35:02.582000-0700", :message=>"stopping pipeline", :id=>"main"}  input {   file {     codec => json     type => "log4j-json"     path => "C:\\Program Files\\Some Application\\Some Service\\logs\\some_log.log"   } } output {   stdout {} }

Does anyone know what this error means and what I can do to fix it?

P.S. I have Logstash running as a service and I'm running ElasticSearch from the command-line for the time being on the same machine.

It's looking likes it's an issue with the input part because if I replace that with stdin{} then it doesn't show the error and appears to be working correctly.

Change your path to path => "C:/Program Files/Some Application/Some Service/logs/some_log.log", replacing the backslash with slash.
